September 30th, 2017, I will retire.
What are you going to do next? Where will you go?
In October, while the weather is still warm in Chicago, I will visit with friends and family. I’ve been on the East Coast four of the last seven years working, so it will be nice to catch up. Then, before the weather turns cold here in the Midwest, I’ll pack up the van and drive to California for the winter.
Are you going to get an apartment out there or something?
Not this year. Urban Vanning is heading to the West Coast! Although it might not be the 98′ Ford Windstar. If I do upgrade to a newer van, it will be shortly before I leave in the fall. A beautiful Lifetime Fitness in Southern California will become my new home base. The travel flexibility that sleeping in a van provides is incredible. I can spend the winter out West where it’s warm, then drive back to the Midwest and East Coast during the summer and fall months.
That’s great, but how will you make money to pay for this?
Cutting all major expenses this past year by sleeping in my minivan has allowed me to save more than I ever have. But it won’t last forever, or will it? Stay tuned and come along for the ride with me as we begin Season 2 of Urban Vanning this summer! It’s going to be a good one.
